[2 V-day fics] "Another Day" and "Chocolate"
All right, here we go. My fandom history Valentines Day Fic Day! :O First up, Sailor Moon and Slayers...
Another Day
Sailormoon
Haruka/Michiru
Worksafe. No spoilers. Set ... probably while they were on vacation in the SuperS season. *g*
"It's just another day, anyway," Haruka argued convincingly on February thirteenth.
Michiru nodded, only half paying attention anyway; she was gazing out the window, a curl wrapped around her finger. "Yes, yes, I absolutely agree."
"Isn't it? Bad enough that nobody can make up their minds normally whether to send me chocolate for Valentine's Day or for White Day," Haruka grumbled.
Michiru had to chuckle at that; she'd noticed it last year and Haruka claimed it had been going on for awhile -- but Haruka, being rather famous down on the track, tended to gather fans. And those fans -- often with their little crushes -- did want to send her chocolates.
But Haruka's more masculine attitudes seemed to stump them. Still, Michiru thought privately that she shouldn't complain as much as she did; all it meant was that she got chocolate two months in a row.
She couldn't help but think Haruka might be a bit disappointed, still. On vacation, as they were, there was hardly a place for the fans to send chocolate to, even if they wanted to. This would probably be the first Valentine's without mountains of chocolate for Haruka.
"So I think we should just skip it," Haruka finished, firmly. "Besides, every day's a romance."
Delicately, Michiru raised an eyebrow. "While I would agree with you in theory, I don't think declaring tomorrow 'romance day' instead is a good excuse for you to flirt with the hotel staff again."
Haruka had, at least, the decency to look embarrassed. "Aww, Michiru, it was just a little flirting--"
But then, Haruka might well end up getting chocolate from them, if any dared risk Michiru's wrath.
"We'll just go down to the beach tomorrow, how's that?" Haruka said, winningly, and Michiru sighed, smiled, let the topic go.
They did indeed go to the beech, and spent most of the day there, the wind teasing their hair out around their heads, shoes in one hand, the waves capturing their feet and releasing again. It was peaceful, and Michiru clasped Haruka's free hand in her own, leaned her head against Haruka's shoulder.
When they returned to their room, there was no chocolate waiting by the door for either of them, and no chocolates on the pillow put there by hotel staff.
And Haruka leaned in to kiss her, and Michiru decided that, perhaps, it was fine that she hadn't gotten Haruka anything after all.

Chocolate
The Slayers
Sorta Lina/Gourry-ish if it's anything, I guess. Mostly gen. *g*
Worksafe. Crack.
Gourry, Zelgadis, Amelia, and Xelloss were all comfortably seated around the inn table when Lina slammed the door open hard enough to fracture the wall.
"Ah! Miss! You'd better be able to pay for that!"
Lina ignored the innkeeper, stomping over to the table. Her eyes were bloodshot and teeth bared, and she seemed only more irritated by the way three of the four of them cringed back from her.
"I had better," she hissed at them, "get some chocolate by the end of the day."
And that pronouncement made, she stomped towards the stairs, up, and apparently to their room.
Amelia's chair thumped back safely onto the ground from where it had been balancing on two feet. Wide-eyed, she looked around the table. "My goodness, I wonder what's bothering Miss Lina..."
Gourry shrugged expressively, apparently having been frightened out of his appetite for a few moments at least, putting the mutton back on his plate. "I have no idea," he said. "She's hardly ever this angry when we haven't done anything yet."
Irritably, Zelgadis sighed, and took another swallow of his coffee. His expression was a tired one. "We were supposed to get on the road today," he said. "If we don't follow up that clue on my cure now, we'll lose any chance."
Uncomfortably, Gourry rubbed at his head. "Uh... I dunno that we can really get her to do anything she doesn't want to when she's in a mood like this, and she didn't seem to want to go... you could ask, I guess."
Amelia made an uncertain noise. "Is asking even safe?" she asked. "In that mood, Miss Lina might refuse out of spite!"
"She might," Zelgadis agreed. He considered for a moment, then put his mug down on the table firmly. "...well, if she decides to follow, that's fine. I'm not wasting any more time. I'll see you again when our paths cross--"
"Oh, but, Mr. Zelgadis," Amelia protested, "shouldn't we take the time to at least figure out if Miss Lina is--"
"Not wasting any more time," Zelgadis repeated, and headed out the front door, his cape billowing dramatically behind him.
Amelia sighed. "...I'm going to worry about him now," she murmured. "I don't know, maybe I should follow him -- he'd probably appreciate a friend's help!" For a moment, she sat up straighter, then slowly sank down again. "...but he also might not want me to interfere in his business. But then, I'm worried about him! Though it's not as if I don't trust his skills... Oh, I'm going!" She rose with determination, pointing towards the door. "Mr. Gourry, make sure Miss Lina follows us! We're off to find his cure!"
She was out the door in two bounds.
"So it seems to be the two of us left, hmm?" Xelloss said, tone cheerful. "Pity they were in such a hurry -- I could easily have explained what was up with Lina."
Gourry blinked at him. "Really? Why'd you know what's up with her?"
"The date."
"A date!? Lina was on a date?! I didn't even think she had a boyfriend!"
Xelloss chuckled. "No, the day -- it's Sweetheart Day."
"Sweetheart Day?" Gourry frowned. "Aren't sweethearts sweethearts every day?"
"Oh, for certain," Xelloss agreed. "But this is a special day. Girls are supposed to get chocolates on this day."
Gourry considered that. "...it sounds like kind of a cheap con to me," he said. "I mean, free food on one day for no reason?"
"That's probably a good description of it," Xelloss said, laughing softly. "Still, if Lina's in this bad a mood because she hasn't had any chocolate, it's probably best to just make her happy. As a matter of fact, I have a little box of chocolate I was going to give my Lady, but she expressed the desire that she and Dynast Grausherra not be disturbed today."
Obligingly, Xelloss produced a heart-shaped box out of his cloak.
"Whoa! Thanks, but... why is it shaped like that?"
"Traditional Sweetheart Day chocolate."
Gourry seemed to accept that, taking the box and not questioning why Xelloss wouldn't deliver it himself. He made his way up to the inn room and tapped on the door. "Lina?"
"GO AWAY!"
"...I brought chocolate?"
The door was flung open. "Come in, come in! Gourry, my old friend -- why is it shaped like a heart?"
Gourry coughed. "Um, Xelloss says it's Sweetheart Day today."
Lina's eyes narrowed. When she spoke again, something dangerous was crackling in her voice. "Xelloss says, huh?"
"Yeah!"
"And since when, exactly, have you listened to what Xelloss has to say?"
Gourry considered that. "WAIT! He was lying?"
"It's not Sweetheart Day, Gourry," Lina said, with muted impatience. "In fact, I don't think there even is a Sweetheart Day."
"Oh." Gourry thought about that as well. "...then why did you want the chocolate?"
Lina stared at him with disbelief. "...don't worry about it. Just give that here and go away."
"OH!" Gourry beamed as understanding dawned. "It's THAT TIME OF THE MONTH again, isn't it!"
One kick sent him flying back against the back wall. Lina emerged, picked up the package of chocolates, and slammed the door as she headed back into the inn room.
Gourry crossed his arms, nodding to himself as he slowly slid down the wall she'd implanted him into. "That totally makes sense! I'd been wondering why I'd never heard of Sweetheart Day!" He pushed himself upright, then knocked. "Hey, Lina?"
"WHAT?"
"Can I have a chocolate?"
There was a long moment of silence. The door opened enough for the heart shaped box to get shoved into Gourry's hands, then slammed shut again.
"Thanks, Lina," Gourry said cheerfully. He opened the box, happily. "Time to eat--"
It was already empty.
